EMBERA INDIANS
We dropped by an Embera Indian Village on the Chagres River this week while we had family visiting. Last time we were there, our friend, Chief Tocamo, told us that a Christian missionary had lived with the Embera in the Darien for 25 years and had translated the New Testament into the Embera language.

We told him about the Book of Mormon and Christ's visit to the Americas. Since the Book of Mormon is not translated into Embera, we brought him a copy in Spanish (which he speaks very well). The chief wasn't in the village when we came, so we left the copy with his cousin, here in the picture.

They even have a basketball court.

They told us they used to build their houses a lot higher off the ground -- back when they were worried about jaguars eating their children!
